David Hoelscher and Anna Tobben Family

David Henry Hoelscher (b. 11/25/1850 d. 1/25/1942) was married on May 1, 1877 to Anna Elizabeth Tobben (b. 5/5/1855 d. 8/21/1935) at St. Francis Borgia Church in Washington, MO. David’s parents were John Henrico Hoelscher and Anna Marie Drahnsmann. Anna’s parents were Herman Henry Tobben and Clara Elizabeth Reuber, all from Krakow, MO. The 1878 Franklin County Atlas showed that David Hoelscher owned forty acres between Four Mile House Road and North Four Mile House Road. Later they bought a farm off Krakow Loop Road, north of St. Gertrude Church cemetery. They were parents of eleven children, one dying in infancy. The children were Elizabeth (Selz), William, John Edward, Frances (Monzyk), Aloysius, Bernard, Mary (Schroeder), Amelia (Daugherty), Edmund, Laura (Terschluse) and John Frank. In 1905, the family moved to Washington, living with Theodore and Frances (Hoelscher) Monzyk at 606 West 5^th Street. In 1907, the Monzyk family moved out into their new home at 515 Stafford Street. David Hoelscher was a stonemason, retiring from that trade about 1927. He also made wooden shoes. Both David and Anna Hoelscher are buried in the St. Francis Borgia Cemetery in Washington.

Edmund married Gertrude Henkhaus Hoelscher who was the widow of brother John Hoelscher. Both are buried in the St. Francis Borgia Cemetery in Washington, MO. Edmund worked in the Shoe Factory for about 20 years. In between that time, he was in the Army in WWI and served some time overseas. About a year before he died, he was in such poor health he could no longer work.

Othmar Terschluse worked at the International Shoe Co. until he had to quit because of an old injury to his neck received while in the U.S. Navy. He then had to wear a neck brace. Laura worked as a cook at the convent for the school sisters. They were parents of three children: Robert, Joan (Jasper) and John. Both are buried at St. Francis Cemetery in Washington, MO.
